Mixing
The Art of Contextual Mixing
Mixing refers to the act of summing multiple layers of audio together, processing each individually, to make one final track combined in only two stereo channels (L and R) – usually ready to send for mastering.
Here at HEAVYTRON we can do both: contemporary (modern) mixing (which is more common at todays productions) and vintage sounding mixing – and it is in the latter we stand out.
A lover of old-school rock and metal (think 70s and 80s), ARTHUR “ARTTIE” MIGOTTO took years developing his secrets to specialize in vintage sounding mixes. Using a hybrid setup (digital + analog) and his personal techniques, he prefers to call his work “Contextual Mixing”. Contextual, because he uses his more than 20 years of background in music and deep knowledge of bands – including gears used in different eras and continents, timbres, ambiance, effects – to craft the exact sound you have in your head.
Therefore, “Mixing” for us is not only a matter of applying techniques to your tracks. It is the art of shaping each instrument to sound the way is needed to be coeherent to the master artists you reference.
We understand that your songs must sound good. That is obvious, and that’s why you are here. But it doesn’t matter it sounds good, if your 70s hard rock inspired by Rainbow and Purple sound like a Pantera child, or if your 90s thrash metal lacks punch and wideness. That is where the Context enters the scene. So for us, your music should sound good and contextual, satisfying both attributes.
Don’t take our word for it. Get in touch and send us a song for a sample – no compromise! We are sure you will end up mixing the whole project with HEAVYTRON.
